Pocema: sonoridade urbana
According to the United Nations, information is a fundamental right. Everyone can produce information and must have the conditions to express themselves freely. Pocema is a collaborative debate network via streaming that aims to promote democratic communication, inclusive interaction and the plurality of voices. In Tupi language, “pocema” means screaming/racket.
Communication is an effective tool in the exercise of democracy, in addition to being indispensable in guaranteeing basic rights to life, the city, education, culture and leisure.
Today, the media networks present us with intolerance, racism, cultural appropriation, chauvinism, xenophobia, speciesism, sexism and transphobia. People are excluded from participation by the oligopolies, which promote their own products and agendas for society to consume. There is a criminalization of popular media, a form of oppression that affects the majority of the population who wishes for social improvements. Pocema identifies media convergence as the main factor behind the mutation of communication. The internet is seen as an alternative to the development of a more democratic media sector.
Pocema has a digital platform (www.pocema.com.br) that posts journalistic content, poetry and documentaries, and promotes streaming in popular households and cultural interventions. Each member is assigned a radio programme or cultural activity in a particular neighbourhood. For this, all we need is an internet connection speed of more than 5 Mbps.
The relationship between people and projects allows us not only to reflect upon the contradictions that exist within the public sphere, but also to contribute to social development.
