Protection for good citizens or citizens with goods
According to the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the 3-meters-high wall that stretches over more than 7km was built along Linha Vermelha in order to prevent accidents and reduce the noise caused by cars that pass by the road. However, there are stickers in that acoustic barrier and they are seen by most of the residents as a form of segregation. On the other hand, in some parts of the Arco Metropolitano highway, such as around the city of Seropédica, where there is a wildlife treatment unit, many wild animals have been suffering great behavioral changes due to the noise of the cars. Also, around Duque de Caxias, in the neighbourhood called Figueira, many residents who didn't suffer with noise pollution and dust before the construction of the Arco are now affected. The project consists of removing the stickers that were placed on the wall in Linha Vermelha, thus making the acoustic barrier transparent and visible so that everybody can have visual access to what is on the other side; and putting acoustic barriers in the Arco Metropolitano highway around Seropédica and the Figueira neighbourhood. The removal of the stickers will allow the citizens to feel that the wall is not meant to besiege or hide them, but to protect them. And putting the walls will be important both in Seropédica for the 2.000 wild animals that live at the treatment unit and for the Figueira residents who live by the Arco Metropolitano highway.
